He took a degree in Philosophy and Arts (History section) at Santiago de Compostela University in 1965 and his doctor's degree in 1971. He worked as an assistant lecturer and Professor in Santiago, Oviedo and Granada Universities.
Since 1990, he has directed the research group 'Edición y estudio de fuentes escritas de las Edades Media y Moderna' (Granada University). He has published the following books: La colección diplomática del monasterio de Santa María de Penamayor (Santiago, 1971), Estudio piloto previo e proposta de rehabilitación integral do mosteiro de Penamaior e o seu entorno (Pontevedra, 1989), Historia de los monasterios y prioratos anejos a Celanova (Granada, 1991), Colección diplomática del monasterio de Santa María de Ferreira de Pantón (Lugo, 1994), El tumbillo de San Bieito do Campo (Santiago) (Granada, 1995), El monasterio de San Juan de Caaveiro (A Coruña, 1999), Monasticón cisterciense gallego (León, 2000) and San Salvador de Celanova (León, 2001). . He has written many scientific works and articles in Gran Enciclopedia Gallega and many magazines. He has also made reports for conferences, given courses and seminars and directed doctoral and minor thesis.
