Xosé Ignacio Cabano Vázquez
Curriculum He took a degree in Geography and History and attended courses on biblioteconomy and graduate courses at the Spanish Open University (doctor’s degree, 1995-1997), Menéndez Pelayo International University, University of Peruggia and Miskatonic University (Department of Library Sciences). He worked as a librarian at the provincial libraries of A Coruña (1986) and Pontevedra (1987) and at the library of the University of Santiago (1985). Since 1988, he has coordinated the collective catalogue of the Bibliographic Heritage at the Galician Bibliographic Centre (Xunta de Galicia) and has been responsible for the creation and organization of training courses for librarians and documentalists of the Xunta de Galicia (1988-2004) and for the project of software for the data bank of the Documentation and Cultural Research Centre. He directed the collection ‘Estudios, catálogos e manuais’ and ‘Bibliofilia de Galicia’, both of them dedicated to the press and book in Galicia. He is the author of the electronic editions of ‘Bibliofilia de Galicia’ (volumes 1, 2 and 3) and ‘Antonio López Ferreiro’ (complete work). He directed ‘Museo do Libro e a Imprenta’, a project for the Galician Library – Newspaper library and collaborates with ‘Tipobibliografía española’, a project directed by Simón Díaz and with ‘Polígrafos españoles’ (Tavera Foundation). He has give lectures, courses and conferences.
Work & Activities He organized the following exhibitions: ‘Documentos papales de la catedral de Santiago’ (1985), ‘Los reyes y Santiago’ (1986), ‘Santiago y América’ (1993), ‘A xeración do 98 nas Bibliotecas Públicas Provinciais de Galicia’ (1998) and ‘Facies Deitatis: As faces de Deus’ (2000). He collaborated as a scientific advisor for the exhibition of the eight centenary of the Porch of Glory (1988); ‘Rande 1702: arde o mar’ (Vigo, 2002) and others. He is a member of the board of directors of Menéndez Pelayo Society (1999), the Bibliography Spanish Association and the organizing committees of the Conferences on Galician Archives, Libraries and Museums.
He collaborated in the restoration project for ‘El Pasatiempo’ Park in Betanzos (1988), the special plan for the protection and development of the historical city centre of Betanzos (1989) and the Alameda Part in Santiago de Compostela (2005).
