He got a degree in Geography and History, specialising in Contemporary History at Santiago University in 1984. He has worked as a teacher of Secondary Education; nowadays he works at 'Santa Comba' Secondary School. He worked as Professor at the College of Social Labour in Santiago. He was a member of the governing body of 'Rosalía de Castro' Foundation. From 1990 to 1999, he was the secretary of 'Castelao' Foundation, nowadays he is a member of the boards of directors. From 1979 to 1984, he was the president of 'Alfonso Eanes' Cultural Association, filling different offices in the board of directors until 1998. He is on the editorial staff of the magazine 'Encrucillada'. He is also a member of the association for solidarity 'Alén do mar' and the Association of Contemporary History and a honourable member of the association 'Unión Barcalesa de la Habana' (Cuba).
