She took a degree in Geography and History at Santiago de Compostela University in 1987 and a doctor's degree in Contemporary History in 1997 with her doctoral thesis La represión franquista en la provincial de Lugo (1936-1940). From 1989 to 1990, she was an assistant Professor at Angers University (France), where she gave courses on 'Spanish Civilisation' in the Faculté des Lettres Langues et Sciences Humaines and Faculté de Droit, d'Economie et des Sciences Sociales. During the academic year 1999-2000, she gave the course 'Consenso y oposición bajo el primer franquismo' in the doctorate programme 'Humanities' at Santiago de Compostela University. From 1993 to 1995, she enjoyed a scholarship to collaborate in the project 'Fifth Centenary of Santiago de Compostela University'. From 1996 to 1998, she collaborated in the project 'As élites políticas na Galicia urbana no primeiro tercio do século XX' and the project 'Élites, representación política e redes clientelares na Galicia do primeiro tercio do século XX' (1999-2001).

From 1987 to 1988, she worked at Castro de Viladonga Museum (Castro de Rei - Lugo), taking part in many activities such as the elaboration of a didactic programme to guide visitors.
