When he was five years old, he moved to Seville with his mother and was admitted to the Seminary. Then he studied in Rome and took his doctor's degree in Philosophy, Theology and Canon Law. He also studied Hebrew, Latin, Greek and modern languages. In 1900, he was ordained as priest. In 1914, he was nominated as bishop of Tui and Vitoria in 1917. He entered the Spanish Academy, making a speech titled La oratoria sagrada en España and the Academy of Moral and Political Science with his speech La persona jurídica. Su concepto filosófico y derechos fundamentales que debe respetar en ella el Estado. He also became member of the Galician Academy.

 Work & Activities

In addition to his speeches to enter the academies above mentioned, he published the books El primer origen de la vida según el Hexámeron y según la ciencia (1917); Santo Tomás y la mística; El concepto de la materia universal en los teólogos medievales (1940); Esbozo apologético de la poesía eucarística clásica española and Directrices sociales (1948).
