He took a degree in Chemistry at the University of Santiago de Compostela in 1972 and a doctor’s degree in Chemistry at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and in Chemical Engineering at the University of Salford (United Kingdom).
After working in the middle of the 80’s at the University of Petroleum & Minerals in Saudi Arabia, he returned to the University of Santiago de Compostela as a Professor.
He was also a Professor at the Universities of Seville and Cantabria.
He worked in the design, development and management of Galicia Supercomputing Centre, which he directed between 1993 and 1997, and in the starting of the Broadband Communication Networks of the Galician Science and Technology Network (RECETGA).Besides, he directed the Centre for Environmental Information and Technology of the Xunta de Galicia (1997-2001) and promoted the Galician Service for Meteorological Observation and Forecast (MeteoGalicia).
On 25th June 2010 he took up his post as vice-chancellor of the University of Santiago de Compostela.
