He was on the same Infantry promotion as General Franco. When he was thirty-four, he was already a colonel. In 1936, he was promoted to general and nominated as under-secretary of the Ministry of War. Shortly before the war was over, he was nominated as military attaché of the Spanish embassy in Washington. Then he moved to the United States, where he gave Spanish classes. In 1949, he was nominated as minister of War in the Government of the Republic in the exile.
