He entered the Society of Jesus in Villagarcía de Campos in 1967 and made his first vows in 1970. He was ordained as a priest on 7th January in León and made his final vows in the Society in 1985.
He took a degree in Hispanic Literature in 1970 (Philosophy and Arts, Salamanca), in Philosophy (1973) and in Theology (1975) at Comillas Pontifical University (Madrid). He taught Literature at several Jesuit schools in Spain (León, Oviedo, Gijón, Burgos) and filled several offices: provincial delegate of the FERE (Federación Española de Religiosos de la Enseñanza), provincial delegate responsible for Education, rector at Sagrado Corazón School in León and schools in Oviedo, Gijón and Burgos.
From 1998 to 2004, he was religious provincial of Castilla. On 18th June 2004 the old Jesuit provinces Castilla and Toledo joined for apostolic reasons into a unique one called Castilla. He was elected for six years (up to June 2010).
On 12th February 2008, he was elected councillor of the new general of the Society, as an assistant of the “Asistencia Europea Meridional” that comprises Portugal, Italy and Spain.
