He studied Primary Education in Calvos de Randín and Xinzo de Limia, where he was awarded several prizes such as the best composition for the Day of the Galician Letters and the best Carnival mask that is exhibited at the Galician Carnival Museum in Xinzo de Limia. When he was 16, he moved to Geneva where his parents were living. He went on with his studies in Jean Calvin and graduated in 2005. Today he is living in Geneva (Switzerland).

 Work & Activities

He took up poetry in 2007 with “Mi palabra al viento”, a collection of a hundred poems about every day life which got a great international success. A year later he wrote “Un te amo en poesía”, a collection of a hundred love poems, entirely dedicated to his wife, son and family. His third book, “Galicia en el alma”, is a collection of poems dedicated to Galicia and emigration.

Javier Méndez has been finalist of the Spanish Language Poetry Contest. This prestigious contest was organized by the Centre for Poetry Studies (Ministry of Culture of Spain) in September 2009 and his poem “Pienso en Galicia” was elected to be included in the anthology “Palabras al viento”. At the end of 2009, Javier Méndez entered the group of universal poets.
