He took a degree in Philosophy at Comillas University, in Philosophy and Arts and Romanic Philology at the Complutense University (Madrid). He also graduated in Portuguese Culture and Language at Lisbon University and took a doctor's degree in Galician Philology at Santiago de Compostela University. He is a Professor of Language and Literature Didactics in the Faculty of Education at Vigo University (Campus de Ourense). He enjoyed several scholarships and was the adviser of the thesis of Professors José David Santos Araújo (Minho University, Braga) and Adriano Bastos de Amarante.
He published the following books: Contos con reviravolta (Castrelos, 1973), Diccionário Galego Ilustrado, I Vol. (Nos, A Coruña, 1983), Diccionario da Língua Galega (three volumes, Alhena, Madrid, 1986), Estudos Filológicos galegoportugueses (Alhena, Madrid, 1987), Diccionário da Língua Galega (Sotelo Blanco, 1995) and A fala dos Concelhos de Trasmiras e Qualedro (doctoral thesis, two volumes, 1999). He also participated in the following collective books: Estudo crítico das Normas Ortográficas e Morfológicas do Idioma Galego (Agal, 1985, 1989), Prontuário ortográfico galego (Agal, 1985), Mapa de Galicia (Akal, Madrid, 1979), Guia prático de verbos galego conjugados (Agal, 1988), Seis projectos de Expressom Artística Globalizada para nenos de 6 a 8 anos (2002) and La Sibila (by Agustina Bessa Luís, translation from Portuguese to Castilian, Alfaguara, Madrid, 1981).
He attended many conferences and symposia in Galicia and abroad.
