He graduated in Medicine at Santiago University in 1968 and specialised in Reumatology at Barcelona University (1972) and took his doctor’s degree at Santiago University in 1994. He was the head of the Reumatology Service at ‘Juan Canalejo’ Hospital in A Coruña and also worked as an associate Professor at A Coruña University (Faculty of Health Science). Besides, he was a member of the Galician Academy of Medicine and Surgery (2001) and member of the Galician Academy (2003).
Seventeen resident doctors specialised in Reumatology under his supervision. He published over a hundred and fifty professional articles, thirty-eight of them in foreign magazines and thirteen chapters of books. Besides, he participated in over three hundred reports for conferences of his speciality. He was awarded ‘Barrié de la Maza’ Prize, (Galician Academy of Medicine, 1979), the Galician Gastronomy National Prize (Lalín, 1999) and the Albariño Silver Leaf (Cambados, 2000). Besides, he was a member of ‘Terra de Viveiro’ Seminary and member of the Galician Gastronomy Academy and ‘Irmandinho dos Vinhos de Galicia’.
