He studied Philosophy at Xerome School and Jurisprudence at Fonseca School, both of them in Santiago de Compostela. He took a degree in 1708 and a doctor's degree in 1709. He became rector of Fonseca School in 1713. His uncle, bishop of Osma, nominated him as ecclesiastic governor in 1718. In 1725, he was nominated canon-inquisitor in Seville, filling this office in Santiago a bit later. He was nominated as bishop of Lugo in 1785, carrying out many works and repairs in the cathedral and the city. After making the offering for the Apostle St James as royal delegate in 1745, he was nominated as bishop of Compostela. During his term of office, he went on with the activity carried out by the previous bishop, the Mexican Antonio de Monroy.

 Other Interesting Aspects

He left part of his legacy to the Blessed Sacrament of Lugo's cathedral, another one to Nuestra Señora de los Ojos Grandes Chapel in Lugo, another one to the poor parishes of the bishopric (Lugo) and another one to the poor people of the diocese.
