He studied Drawing at the School of Arts and Industries in Madrid and improved his technique and studied the classic at the Prado Museum. In 1921, he travelled to several countries, including Paris, which influenced his work.

 Work & Activities

His work can be divided in three periods. The first one (1919-29) is characterised for the study on the Galician landscape and man, as we can se in his works Romería de Sta. Cruz, O Cego, Canónigos and Los cuatro jinetes del Apocalipsis. In the second period (1931-36) he is influenced by the French postimpressionism in works like El minero, Jugadores de ajedrez, El ahogado, La mecanógrafa or La niña de la guitarra. After the Civil War he painted Os velliños do Asilo and Ría gallega which are preserved in the Provincial Museum of Pontevedra. Besides, he made several drawings and illustrations. He made the engravings in boxwood that illustrated the work Ribadeo Antiguo by F. Lanza Alvarez and made drawings with nibs such as El ahorcado and La muerte del arlequín. As an illustrator, he collaborated in the magazines ‘La Esfera’, ‘Por esos mundos’ and ‘Ronsel’ and was the artistic editor of the magazine ‘Orientaciones’. Amando Suárez celebrated individual exhibitions in Paris, Buenos Aires, Madrid, Barcelona, Leon and Lugo.
