He was director general for Sport in the Xunta de Galicia from July 2005 to May 2007. He was a councillor in the City Council of Vigo from 1995 to July 2005. From 1999 to 2003, he was responsible for Sport, Youth, Health and Consumption. From July to October 2003 he was responsible for Culture. In the last stage, before being on the Galician Government, he was spokesman of the BNG. His professional activity was always linked to teaching. He worked as a teacher of Galician, English and Spanish Language at San José de Teis School, where he coordinated the Linguistic Standardization Team and San José Basketball Club. He has the certificate of basketball national coach.Santiago Domínguez Olveira is a member of the BNG National Council. He has been linked to nationalism since he was young. In 1979 he entered ERGA and shortly after he was president of the Galician Student Christian Movement in Vigo. He also took part in Irimia Movement with Father Seixas.He joined the BNG (Bloque Nacionalista Galego) in 1990, taking part of the local council and executive committee.
He is deputy Mayor in the City Council of Vigo and responsible for Industry, Commerce, Tourism and historic city centres.
