He was general manager of Tourism in the Consellería de Innovación e Industria since 2005 until 2009. He had previously been dean of the Faculty of Geography and History (University of Santiago) and was awarded an extraordinary prize for his doctor’s degree in Geography in 1991.

 Work & Activities

His job is linked to his research activity. Since 1992 he has been a member of the scientific committee of the University Institute for the Study and Development of Galicia (IDEGA), where he coordinates the working area ‘Estudos Territoriais e Ordenación do Territorio’. Since 1995 he has been on the editorial staff of the collection ‘Documentos de Traballo do Idega’ and coordinator of the Geography area. He is the main researcher of the 040-06 group of Urban and Social Geography of the University of Santiago. From 1995 to 1999 he was also associate researcher of the Unité Mixte de Recherches (UMR) of the French CNRS, Espaces géographiques et Societés of the universities of France Ouest (Angers, Caen, Le Mans, Nantes and Rennes).

He has written eighty books and chapters of books and over forty articles published in scientific magazines. He has also directed twelve doctoral theses and 23 minor theses.
