He took a degree in Law at the Complutense University in Madrid (1984) and a doctor’s degree at the Autonomous University of Madrid (1989). He was an assistant Professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid from 1984 to 1990 and temporary Professor at the University of A Coruña from 1990 to 1992. Since 1992 he has been Professor of Roman Law at the University of A Coruña. Since 1990 he has been a Professor at the Open University in A Coruña. He has focused his research activity on Roman Law and the Galician juridical history. Regarding Roman Law he has studied several aspects related to contracts, family law and casuistic methodology. As for Galician juridical history, he studied the historical process followed until the legislative consolidation of the private juridical peculiarities of Galicia, its characteristics and further doctrinal, jurisprudencial and legislative development up to date.

He is the author of “Servidumbres y serventías. Estudios sobre su regulación jurídica y desarrollo jurisprudencial en Galicia” (A Coruña, 2001); “La Ley de Dereito civil de Galicia: balance de un lustro y análisis de su revisión” (A Coruña 2002) as coordinator; “Responsabilidad civil de profesionales y empresarios. Aspectos nacionales e internacionales” (A Coruña, 2006), as editor and coordinator; “De Gallaecia a Galicia. Historia, Lengua y Cultura” s.f. (pero, 2010), as editor and coordinator; “Galicia y su Derecho privado. Líneas históricas de su formación, desarrollo y contenido” (A Coruña 2012) and “Técnica jurisprudencial romana” (A Coruña 2011), as joint author. He also collaborated in national and international juridical magazines and collective books.

 Other Interesting Aspects

He was the secretary of the Private Law Department of the University of A Coruña (1990-1991) and the Faculty of Law (1991-1999). He also coordinated the Juridical, Economical and Business Sciences Division of the Open University in A Coruña (2003-2010). He edited the "Anuario da Facultade de Dereito da Universidade da Coruña" from 2005 to 2009. He was also secretary of this magazine since it was created in 1997 until 2004 and became a life member of the scientific council of the magazine in 2010. Since 2010 he has been running “Ciencia y Pensamiento Jurídico”, published by Andavira Editora. He is on the scientific board of Revista General de Derecho romano, published by Iustel in an electronic format. He is a member of several international scientific associations related to studies about Galicia. He participated in several reports in national and international conferences, most of which have been published as doctrinal articles in several collective books and specialized national and international magazines. He is a member of the Galician Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation since 2005 and member of the Academy of Spanish Jurisprudence and Legislation since 2006. He has been deputy magistrate of the High Court of Justice of Galicia since 1992 and has participated in the Third Conference on Galician Law as a member of the Studies Comission.
