He studied Secondary Education at a Jesuit School in A Guarda. He took his degree in Mathematics at Madrid University in 1904. Although he was still very young, he always had a vocation for Mathematics and Astronomy. In 1912, he built an astronomical observatory in Lalín, which was the first one in Galicia and one of the most important in Spain.In 1944, he got a chair in Astronomy that was created at the Faculty of Science.He was a member of the Academy of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciencies (1939) and the Galician Academy (1941). He was the director of the Astronomical Observatory and so forth. He spoke ten languages.
He was the supervisor of four thesis and published Algoritmia, Principios fundamentales de la ciencia de los números (1918), Introducción a la Astronomía (1943) and Astronomía a simple vista (1948).He also collaborated in several publications such as Revista de la Sociedad Astronómica de España y América, Arquivos do Seminario de Estudos Galegos, Las Ciencias, Publicaciones del Observatorio de Santiago, Revista de Geofísica, Utama, Astronomische Nachrichten, L'Astronomie.
In 1960, he was paid a great homage in Lalín, where a statue by the sculptor Francisco Asorey was unveiled.
