Jairo Iglesias

Category: Director
Birth Date: In 1986

 Curriculum

His interest for cinema starts after watching Tésis by Alejandro Amenábar, who he considers as a reference of that time.
In 2004, he entered the Image and Sound School of A Coruña, where he studied the second stage of Image for two years. At the moment, he is studying Audiovisual Production and Performances at the same school.
Although he mainly writes scripts and directs shorts, he also worked as a cameraman in other shorts, reports and advertising and as a set designer in several projects.
Together with Sara Horta, he created Producciones Retrato in October 2005 in order to work as a group and carry out projects in a most professional way.
He was awarded Mestre Mateo Prize to the best fiction short with “Cicatrices”, becoming the youngest director that got this prize.

 Work & Activities

SHORTS:
Jairo Iglesias made his debut as a director and scriptwriter in July 2005 with “Retrato”, a short about love and lost opportunities with a star cast: Tamar Novas (Goya Prize for Mar Adentro), Sara Casasnovas, César Goldi, Estíbaliz Veiga and Sergio Suárez.
In February 2006, he recorded his second short, “Cicatrices”, supported by Mr. Misto Films. The short, about social themes and a star cast with Isabel Blanco, Estibaliz Veiga and Xavier Deive, participated in several national festivals and was awarded Mestre Mateo Prize to the best fiction short in May 2007.
He has just presented his third work, “Rosa dos Ventos”, a short about widows of fishermen and Galicia. It was recorded in Malpica with the same team. Belén Constenla, Miguel Borines, María Castro and Fernando Morán play this short that was favourably received in the premieres.

QUOTATIONS
‘Jairo Iglesias, a promesa do cine galego’, Galicia Hoxe.
Elena P.
‘Con solo 20 años, Jairo Iglesias va a estrenar su segundo cortometraje’, El Correo Gallego.
