Miguel Carballeda has been the president of the ONCE (Organización Nacional de Ciegos Españoles), a charitable organization for the blind, since 9th July 2003. He joined the organization in 1977 and sold the lottery ticket for over nine years in Majorca. He was elected president of the territorial council of this organization in the Balearic Islands in May 1986 at the same time he was responsible for the social services for the members of that council. In February 1988, he moved to the head quarters of the organization to put into operation the sports area. Shortly after, he was nominated as director of the organization in Alicante. He was elected delegate of the organization in the Valencian autonomous region in January 1990 and in Catalonia in February 1993. The General Council nominated him as director general on 23rd May 2000. In 2001, he was nominated as vicepresident of Sports and Institutional Relations of the Spanish Paralympic Committee. He has been the president of the general council of the organization since July 2003. He is a member of the Spanish Committee of Agents of Disabled People since 21st October 2003. On 7th November 2003, he was elected president of the patronage of the Foundation for the Solidarity with the Blind in Latin America. Since 20th of december 2004 up to the moment, he has been the president of the Spanish Paralympic Committee.
