He got a diploma in French Language. He started his political activity in the 'PSG' (Galician Socialist Party) in the early 70's. He was on the executive body of the 'PSG' in April 1979 and was the first on the electoral roll of 'Unidade Galega' in the elections of the City Council of A Coruña. After the first democratic elections, he became Mayor in A Coruña (April 1979 - March 1981). After the merger with 'Esquerda Galega' (EG), he was the secretary of the organisation, general vice-secretary and general secretary of the 'PSG-EG'. He was a member of the Galician Parliament, representing the 'PSG-EG' during the third session. In 1982, the 'PSG-EG' promoted the creation of 'Unidade Galega'. This organisation was integrated in the 'BNG' in 1994 and he was the spokesman. He has been a member of the national council and standing Committee of the 'BNG' since 1994, being responsible for Social Relations. He was a member of the advisory board of Spanish TV in Galicia at the proposal of 'BNG'. Nowadays, he is a member of the Galician Parliament, representing the 'BNG'.He is very keen on chess, becoming Galician champion on several occasions and champion in the international tournaments in Manresa, Can Picafort, León and Zamora. He also became runner-up ex-aequo and international on 32 occasions.
