He took a degree in Medicine and Surgery at Santiago de Compostela University in 1978 and worked at 'Virxe Peregrina' Health Clinic in Pontevedra.
He started his connexion with nationalism, taking part in several social and ecologist demonstrations in 1974. In 1983, he was elected councillor of the political party 'BNG' in Samos (Lugo). From 1987 until July 1999, he was the spokesman of 'BNG' in the City Council of Pontevedra. On 3rd July 1999, he took over as Mayor in Pontevedra.
He was on the National Council and standing committee of 'BNG'. Nowadays, he is responsible for 'BNG' in Pontevedra and member of the Local Council.
