She is a Professor of the Department of English and German Philology at the University of Santiago de Compostela since November 1997. In the last years she has also carried out teaching and research activities at the Universities of Edinburgh, Freiburg, Glasgow, Helsinki, Jaén, Málaga, Manchester, Munich, Murcia, Vigo and University College London.

 Work & Activities

She forms part of “Variation, Linguistic Change and Grammaticalization”, a research group directed by Prof. Teresa Fanego and is the main researcher of ‘Construcionalización e gramaticalización na lingua inglesa’, a project financed by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. Her research activity focuses on the variation processes and linguistic change in English language, mainly in the grammaticalization, constructionalization and intersubjectivation processes in the discourse markers, existential constructions and clausal complementation. She published articles about these subjets in English Language and Linguistics, Neuphilologische Mitteilungen, Folia Linguistica, Journal of English Linguistics and Folia Linguistica Historica.

She is also coeditor of English historical syntax and morphology (2002), Rethinking grammaticalization: New perspectives (2008), Theoretical and empirical issues in grammaticalization (2008) and Information structure and syntactic change in the history of English (2012).

 Other Interesting Aspects

She held posts of responsibility in several national and international associations in the context of linguistics like the International Computer Archive of Modern and Medieval English, the Spanish Association of English and North American Studies, the Spanish Association of Applied Linguistics and the Spanish Association of Corpus Linguistics. She also forms part of the editorial committee of Folia Linguistica, Atlantis and other magazines.
