She studied Fashion Design at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan, where she did her thesis under the directions of Franca Sozzani, manager of Vogue Italy.

When she was only 21 she got “Moët&Chandon Young Fashion Award” to the best European young designer in collaboration with the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana.

In 2009, Capital publishes the list of 100 most promising young pleople in Spain and points out the Galician designer as one of the most influential personalities in the country and the first one in the field of design. In 2011, La Razón places María Barros in the ranking of the 50 most influential young people in the national scene.

After working with designers like Roberto Cavalli in Florence, Modesto Lomba in Madrid or Pupi Solari in Milan, María Barros created her own firm in 2003.

Since 2003, María Barros has presented her collections in different national catwalks. She first took part at Gaudí Catwalk during the four consecutive seasons. Afterwards, she joined the calendar of Milán Catwalk fashion shows. Since that moment onwards, her collections are present in different shops in Spain, Italy, USA, Russia and Arabia.

She conceives design as a multidisciplinary study and apart from her design, she collaborates in other fields like ‘Couture’ furniture collection, in which fashion concepts fuse to be global and understood under the thought of interiorism. This collection dresses some of the most emblematic and modern spaces in Europe. María Barros’s collections can be seen in different international advertising campaigns too like those presented by Suárez Jeweller’s, Carrera&Carrera and Freixenet.

María Barros also designs capsule collections for other firms as for example the design for the first textile collection of Hazel complements: Hazel by María Barros.

In 2012, María Barros she entered the Association of Spanish Designers (ACME).

Nowadays, the designer presents her collections at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Catwalk (Madrid), where she began to model in February 2009.
