He studied Romance Philology in Compostela and presented his minor thesis (‘A evolución da poesía de Rafael Alberti’). He took a doctor’s degree at the Complutense University (doctoral thesis: ‘A soedade na poesía de Luisa Cernuda’). He teaches Spanish Language and Literature in Vigo.
He published his first poetry book in 1972 (‘Mejor el fuego’, Fablas Ediciones, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria). In 1977, he published ‘El cazador de días’ with a prologue by Luís Rosales. ‘A tarde chea de verán’, his first work written in Galician, is a long poetry book, an elegy dedicated to Celso Emilio Ferreiro. ‘E direivos eu do mister das cobras’ (‘La Región’, Ourense, 1980) has been considered by Álvaro Cunqueiro, Varela Jácome, Fernández del Riego, Xosé Mª Álvarez Blázquez and many others as the most innovative poetry book on contemporary Galician lyric.
In 1985, he published a new poetry book written in Galician, titled ‘A lenda das árbores de prata’ (Ediciones Nós, A Coruña), which was awarded the Galician Critic Prize. In 1988, he published ‘Casa para los ojos’ (‘Puerta del Mar’ Collection) in Málaga. ‘El quinto cáliz’ (Genil Collection, Granada, 1977) was considered by some writers as ‘the most startling book about the meeting of a man with God’. ‘El corazón del pan’ (Jorge Guillén Foundation, Valladolid, 2002) focus on the religious theme. ‘A esmeralda branca’ is his last book.
