After leaving the Spanish Olympic Team in 1984, he went on competing in 1985 and 1986 with the Spanish Marathon Team, getting four gold medals in 1985 in the Spanish Championships and the fourth position in the World Championship celebrated in Luxembourg. In 1986 he got four gold medals in the Spanish Championship and the third position in the World Championship celebrated in Porto (Portugal). During these years he also won most of the national races such as the International Descent of the River Sella, which he won on four occasions.

During 1987-1991 he trained the Spanish Marathon Team, participating in Spanish, World and European Championships. He trained the Spanish Olympic B-Team, participating in Spanish championships and International competitions, and also worked as a trainer in the Canoe School of Lugo and the Canoe School of the Club Fluvial (Lugo).

Today he is on the board of directors of the Club Fluvial (Lugo), where is delegate of the Canoe Section. He also directs the Canoe School of the Club Fluvial and is the vice-president of the Galician Canoe Federation. He is also a member of ‘Asociación Olímpicos Españoles’ and ‘Asociación Olímpicos Gallegos’.

He works as a civil servant at the Sports Service of the Xunta de Galicia in Lugo.

He participated in the following championships:

Olympic Games:

-Montreal (Canada) 1975: 2nd position in K-4 – 1000 m (silver medal).

-Moscow (Russia) 1980: 3rd position in K-2 – 1000 m (bronze medal).

-Los Angeles (United States) 1984: 6th position in K-4 – 1000 m (Olympic diploma).

 

World Championships:

-Tampere (Finland) 1973: 6th position in K-1 – 1000 m, 2” from the first K-1. He was the first Spanish canoeist who passed the final in a World Championship.

-Mexico 1974: 4th position in K-1 – 1000 m and 4x500 m, in K-4 – 1000 m and K-2 – 10000 m.

-Belgrade (Yugoslavia) 1975: 1st position in K-4 – 1000 m (World Champion – gold medal), 3rd position in K-1 – 4x500 m (third World position – bronze medal) and 4th position in K-4 – 10000 m.

-Sofia (Bulgaria) 1977: 3rd position in K-4 – 500 and 1000 m (third world position – bronze medal).
-Belgrade (Yugoslavia) 1978: 2nd position in K-4 – 500 m (second world position – silver medal), 3rd position in K-4 – 1000 m (third world position – bronze medal) and 4
th position in K-2 – 10000 m.

-Duisburg (Germany) 1979: 3rd position in K-2 – 10000 m (third world position – bronze medal) and 4th position in K-4 – 1000 m.

-Nottingham (Great Britain) 1981: 4th position in K-2 – 1000 and 10000 m.

-Belgrade (Yugoslavia) 1982: 3rd position in K-2 – 1000 m (third world position – bronze medal) and 4th position in K-2 – 10000 m.

-Tampere (Finland) 1983: 5th position in K-4 – 500 m and 6th position in K-4 – 1000 m.

-Amsterdam (Holland) 1981: 1st position in K-2 (gold medal).

-Luxembourg 1985: 4th position in k-2.

-Porto (Portugal) 1986: 3rd position in K-2 (bronze medal).

 

Europe Championships:

He got a gold medal, two silver medals and six bronze medals.

Mediterranean Games:

Split (Yugoslavia) 1981: 1st position in K-1 – 1000 m, in K-2 – 1000 m and in K-4 – 1000 m.

Spanish Championships:

He was Spanish championship on 60 occasions (gold medal).

Mexico Open Championship:

-1st position in K-4 – 500 m, K-2 – 500 and 1000 m and K-1 – 1000 m.

 

 Other Interesting Aspects

He was awarded the following distinctions: best Spanish sportsman (1979), best Spanish junior sportsman (1969), best sportsman in Lugo for eighteen years running, Real Order to the national sports merit, Sports merit medal of the Olympic Committee, Silver Medal of Galicia, canoeing merit medal, merit medal (Club Fluvial, Lugo), merit medal (Club Ancares), gold badge (Club Deportivo Lugo), ‘Ya de oro’ for human values and ‘pala de honor’ (Galician Canoe Federation). He was an international sportsman representing Spain on 180 occasions and was elected among the five best Galician sportsman of the 20th century. There is a street in Lugo with his name.
