She took a doctor’s degree in Biology and is a Professor of Genetics at the University of Santiago de Compostela, where she assisted the vice-rector of the Coordination of the Campus of Lugo from 1994 up to 1998. She attended courses at the University of Rome (Italy), Würzburg (Germany) and Cagliari (Italy). She has been a Senior Fellowship at the ‘Human Genome Mapping Project-Resource Centre’ in Cambridge (United Kingdom). She has been responsible for Research and Scientific Relations at the University of Santiago de Compostela and president of the Commission of the University Library and Historic Archives of the same university. Nowadays, she is the ‘Conselleira de Educación e Ordenación Universitaria’.
She is the author of over seventy international publications, collected in the ‘Science Citation Index’ and directed ten doctoral theses. She has also directed many national and international projects related to basic and applied genetics.
She is on the editorial staff of many international magazines and is a member of several scientific societies such as the ‘American Association for the Advancement of Science’.
She has directed a research group, carrying out research works based on fish genomics. She has collaborated with the most important Galician firms related to this sector.
