After finishing his ecclesiastic career in the Seminary of Mondoñedo (Lugo), he was ordained as a priest in 1916. One year later, he took a degree in Theology at the Ecclesiastic University of Santiago de Compostela and taught Philosophy and Theology at the Seminary of Mondoñedo. In 1945, he became bishop of Elusa and assistant bishop of Santiago de Compostela. In 1949, he became bishop of Palencia and filled this office until 1970.
He filled the office of rector at the Seminary of Mondoñedo and editor of the magazine 'Boletín Diocesano'.
