He took a degree and a doctor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery at Complutense University (Madrid) and specialised in Nuclear Medicine, Oncological Radiotherapy and Clinical Oncology. As far as his teaching activity is concerned, he was the head Professor of the Nuclear Medicine Service in the Faculty of Medicine (Complutense University), director of the College of Experts on Nuclear Medicine and director of studies of the Professional College of Postgraduates in Electrocardiology of the Provincial Hospital of Madrid and the Faculty of Medicine at Complutense University (1974-77). He is a Consultor Senior, the most important level in the hospital professional career of the Autonomous Region of Madrid. He was a resident doctor of Gustave-Roussy (Villejulf – Paris) in the Curietherapy Service (Professor Chassegne) and the Oncological Research Department (Professor Mathé) and assistant doctor of the Teleradiotheraphy and Curietherapy Department at Curie Foundation (Paris). He did a master in Hospital Direction at the College of Hospital Management (Ministry of Health and Consumption) and several stays abroad. He is a supervisor of the Radioactive Installations of the Council of Nuclear Security, scientific director of the Centre of Nuclear Research Associated Clinics and member and first vicepresident of the Spanish Medical and Surgical Academy.

 Work & Activities

He is the author of a hundred publications, reports and lessons presented in conferences, symposia and national and international courses. Besides, he is the author and joint author of six books of his speciality and attended twenty-two improvement courses at several hospitals and national and foreign universities.

 Other Interesting Aspects

He is a member of the Coordinating Committee of Oncological Research and Spanish member of the Working Group on Nuclear Cardiology of the European Society of Cardiology. Besides, he is a foundation member of the Spanish Society of Oncology and member of the following scientifical societies: Italian Society of Therapy on Tumours, Society of Nuclear Medicine of USA, Spanish Society of Nuclear Medicine, European Group of Curietherapy, Spanish Society of Hepatology in the speciality of Nuclear Medicine, German Society of Nuclear Medicine, European Society of Nuclear Medicine, Spanish Society of Hospital Managers, Spanish Society of Radiological Protection, Association of Radiotherapy and Oncology, Spanish Association of Mammary Pathology and Spanish Society of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. He is also the first vicepresident of the Association of Galician Doctors and brother of the ‘Enxebre Orde da Vieira’. He was also awarded the National Health Prize in 1996 and the distinction ‘Madrigallego de Oro al Mérito de la Medicina’ in the year 2000.
