He carried out ecclesiastic studies in Herbón and studied Philosophy and Arts in Salamanca. He also specialised in Gregorian chant at Silos Monastery and Historic Methodology, Harmony and Composition in Madrid. He practised as a Franciscan friar but he gave up in 1940 for reasons of health. He founded and directed the cultural group 'Amigos del Románico', organising several photographic exhibitions titled Monasterios en Galicia and Rutas del Románico. He also carried out a very important work at the head of several musical groups such as the Polyphonic Choral Society and 'Encantiños del Umia' Choir in Caldas de Rei (Pontevedra).
As a result of his musical experience at the head of the Polyphonic Choral Society, he published the studies Música en el folclore gallego and Origen y evolución de la música gallega. He also published the following books: Primera exposición del Románico en el Bajo Miño (1977), La cultura del Románico en Galicia (1972), El Monacato en Galicia (1972), Monasterio cisterciense de Sobrado de los Monjes y Monfero (1973), Influencia del Camino de Santiago en la Historia y el Arte de Galicia (1977), Estampas pontevedresas (1978), Celanova, el monasterio de San Salvador (1978), Las rutas del Románico en la provincia de Pontevedra (1978), El monasterio de Celanova. Guía Turística (1983) and Boticas Monacales y la Medicina Naturalista en Galicia (1983).
