In 1864 he was nominated as director general of Public Works. As a military man, he reached the rank of infantry colonel.

He published several works on military and geographical themes such as Apuntes para la historia de los sucesos de julio de 1854; Progresos de la Geodesia (1862); Estudio de fortificaciones. Atrincheramientos de campaña (1864); Base de Madridejos. Base central de la triangulación geodésica de España (1865), etc.

 Other Interesting Aspects

He was a member of the Geographical Society of Paris and the Meteorological Society of France. He was also a member of the Spanish Academy although he could not enter the institution owing to his early death.
