He studied Grammar and Art at the Jesuit School in Monterrey (Ourense) and Law in Salamanca. He was a Theology Professor at Salamanca University (1617-44), prior at St Esteban Convent (Salamanca) and bishop of Segovia (1648-56). He was one of the most important representatives of the Spanish neothomist school. King Felipe IV and his court often consulted him.
