When he was 23, he took a degree in Law in Madrid (with an extraordinary reward). Thanks to a scholarship he got at University, he travelled to Munich and became an assistant lecturer of Penal Law at the Central University in 1929. In 1931, he got the professorship of Penal Law at 'La Laguna' University. He was elected deputy in 1931 and 1936. At the request of Castelao, he moved to Madrid to look for the original text of the Statute they wanted to present in the following session. In 1939, he travelled to New York into exile and entered the Hunter College in 1940. During the period 1946-1971, he worked at the Spanish School of the Middlesburg College that he directed from 1963 to 1971. Since 1967, he also directed the doctorate programme in the Spanish Centre of New York University.
