He studied Latin and Humanities in Santiago and Teaching in Madrid. He became a Primary Education inspector. He collaborated in many newspapers of that time, which contributed to the diffusion of Galician language. He was one of the first writers who talked about the necessity of creating an Academy.

 Work & Activities

Together with his brother Francisco, he created the magazine Galicia. Revista Universal de este reino, which he himself directed. In this magazine he published his most important works: Reseña stórica de Galicia (1861) and Diccionario gallego-castellano (1863).
