Degree in Philosophy and Arts (History section) at Santiago University (1968) with an extraordinary prize and doctor's degree in 1974. Professor of Courses for Technicians in Tourist Information. Member of the foundation and responsible for the section of agricultural technology at the 'Museo do Pobo Galego'. Member of the Conference about Cultural Anthropology of the 'Consello da Cultura Galega'. Director of the Ethnography section at the Institute of Galician Studies 'Pai Sarmiento'. Member of the editorial council of the project 'Proxecto Galicia' and coordinator of the volumes Antropología Cultural (Hércules Publication, A Coruña). Member of the advisory board of the magazines Anuario de Hª de la Antropología (Barcelona), Antropológicas (Oporto, Portugal), Cuadernos de Estudios Gallegos and Guía dos Libros Novos (Santiago). He made ethnographical works in Galicia and Leon.

 Work & Activities

These are his best-known books, some of them in collaboration with other writers: Lendas Galegas de Tradición Oral (1984), Entroido en Galicia (1987), A festa de San Xoán (1989), Antropología y Etnografía de las proximidades de la Sierra de los Ancares (1990), Sociedade e tecnoloxía tradicionais do val de Ancares (1996), La invención del Estado-nación (2001)... He coordinated six simiposia, organised by the 'Consello da Cultura Galega'. He was responsible for the Anthropology section in the Congress of Galician Culture (1990) and president of the third congress about history of Anthropology and applied Anthropology (Pontevedra, 1996). Many of his articles and conferences were also published in Galicia, the rest of Spain and other countries.
