In 1979, he took a degree in Philosophy and Education Sciences and a doctor's degree in Pedagogy in 1987. In 1989, he became a Professor of Theory and History of Education. From 1979 to 1990, he taught Theory and History of Education at the University College in Ourense. Since 1990, he has been teaching Social Pedagogy in the Faculty of Humanities (Campus of Ourense - Vigo University). During the course 1989-90, he directed the University College. From 1990 to 1994, he filled the office of vice-dean in the Faculty of Humanities, dean from 1994 to 1998 and vice-rector from 1998 to 2000. He presented his doctoral thesis Educación y Sociedad en Ourense durante la 2ª República in Santiago (1987).

He collaborated in several collective books and scientific magazines such as 'Historia de la Educación', 'Pedagogía Social' and 'Temps d'educació'.
He was the secretary of the association 'Nova Escola Galega' for one year and president for two years. He was also a member of the group of educators for peace of 'Nova Escola Galega'.He also organised ten editions of the Conferences 'Education for Peace'.
