Xosé Lois Rúa Núñez

He is married and has two children. After studying Secondary Education at Otero Pedrayo and Blanco Amor Secondary Schools in Ourense, he studied Art History at the University of Santiago de Compostela. He has been living in Ourense for 23 years. He collaborated in Gran Enciclopedia Gallega.

 Work & Activities

He has been working as a journalist for thirty years and developed his activity in La Región, La Voz de Galicia, Faro de Vigo, Agencia Efe, A Nosa Terra, El Sol, Radio Popular de Ourense, Radio Noroeste and Radio Galega. He has been awarded several prizes for his journalistic works such as the third edition of Tojal Journalism Prize for journalistic works about economical and social matters.

In 1995 he had been awarded the third prize in the literary category at Tojal Contest. That same year he was awarded a prize at the 7th edition of Xosé Aurelio Carracedo Journalism Prize, organized by Ourense County Council. In 2003, he got the second prize in that same contest.

“O lobo nos outeiros”, (1996) was awarded a prize at the 16th edition of Cidade de Ourense Poetry Prize in 1995. It is a collection of poems written between 1993 and 1995 with a prologue by Víctor Campio Pereira and ilustrations by Mané Boán.

“O tránsito da auga”, Edicións do Castro (2002) was awarded a prize at the 14th edition of Eusebio Lorenzo Baleirón Poetry Prize. It is a collection of poems written between 1996 and 1998.

“Elexías do Camba”, Espiral Maior (2003) was awarded a prize at the 19th edition of Cidade de Ourense Poetry Prize. It is a collection of poems written between 1998 and 2000 prologued by Aquilino Alonso Núñez, Professor at the University of Vigo.

“Memoria dos ríos perdidos”, Espiral Maior (2009) is a collection of poems written between 1999 and 2002.

 Other Interesting Aspects

On 16th June 2012 he was awarded he Gold Medal of the Royal Pipe Band of Ourense County Council for his contribution to the knowledge of Galician traditional language and culture, specially popular music and pipe.
