He studied Secondary Education in A Coruña. In 1962, he began to work for the bank firm 'Banco Central' and shortly after, he got in touch with young people who were against the Government of that time. In 1965, he entered the Young Communists and two years later, he was arrested for the first time. On 14th March 1972, he was arrested again when he was delivering propaganda about the events on 10th March in Ferrol. Because of his arrest, he lost his job in the bank firm 'Banco Central'. In 1973, he began to work for the firm 'ITELSA' in A Coruña, starting his syndical activity in the metal sector. In 1975, he became vicepresident of the provincial union in A Coruña. In 1976, he was free of duties to devote himself to 'Comisiones Obreras' in A Coruña and two years later, in 1978, he was elected general secretary in A Coruña. From 1981 to 1989, he was the secretary of the Organisation of the National Trade Union of 'Comisiones Obreras'. In 1985, he entered the bank firm 'Banco Central' again although he was still free of duties for the union activity. In 1989, he was nominated secretary of union action and was general secretary of 'Comisiones Obreras' in Galicia in April 2000. He was also the president of the Interregional Union Council Galicia-North Portugal. He is a member of the State Confederal Council of 'Comisiones Obreras' and represented it in the Galician Council of Labour Relations.
