He graduated as a doctor of History (Medieval History) at Santiago University in 1990. During the period 1986-87,' he held a scholarship of the 'Consello da Cultura Galega' and he also became a research scholarship holder of the Xunta de Galicia (1987-88). From 1988 to 1993, he was an assistant lecturer of Medieval History Santiago de Compostela University. In 1992, he was a scholarship holder and visitor professor of the British Academy. From 1996 to 1999, he worked as an assistant lecturer of Medieval History at Santiago University, becoming a Professor in 1999. Since 1996, he has worked as a Professor in the Faculty of Humanities in Lugo.
