He established himself in A Coruña in 1857, where he lived until his death. He opened a book shop and shortly after a printing house, in which he worked as a typographer printing brochures and programmes of several Galician cultural and artistic societies. He founded and edited El Telegrama, one of the first newspapers of A Coruña. He was persecuted for his republican ideas and, after being arrested in 1867, he was confined at St Anton Castle. One year later, he was set free after the overthrow of Isabel II.
