Ramón Carballal Pernas

He arrived in Galicia in 1926. He studied Law in Madrid and entered the judicial career in 1947. He was the judge in A Fonsagrada, Chantada, Betanzos and Ferrol. He was magistrate in A Coruña from 1963 until his death.

 Work & Activities

He was the author of a lot of juridical reports in specialized magazines (Sobre el concepto del Derecho Civil, Pasado y presente del Derecho Civil Especial de Galicia, La ley de montes vecinales en mano común, Hacia un nuevo concepto de la responsabilidad civil and Ante la revisión do Dereito Civil especial de Galicia) and wrote poetry in Galician language. In 1974, he was awarded the ‘Natural Flower’ in the Floral Games of Oleiros (A Coruña) and also gave lectures about justice, society, literature and religion.

 Other Interesting Aspects

He was the president of the Prison Law Section at the Fifth Latin American and Philippine Penal and Prison Law celebrated in A Coruña, and secretary of the Studies Commission of the First Conference on Galician Law. He was a member of the Spanish Institute of Procedural Law and was on the editorial staff of Foro Gallego and Jurisdicción Contencioso-Administrativa. In his entrance ceremony he pronounced the first speech in Galician language at the Galician Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation. In 1963 he was awarded St Raimundo de Peñafort Cross and died in February 1984. He was also awarded the Honour Cross and St Raimundo de Peñafort Collar posthumously.
