He is married and has three children. He studied Humanities, but he never worked as a teacher. He soon gave up History and Philosophy to become a businessman. He founded the company 'Comercial Durán', which is dedicated to sell painting, varnishes, thinner and other products. In 1982, he enlarged his business network and created the printing house 'Gráficas Duher'. Since 1st March 1999, he has been the president of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation of Pontevedra.
During the session 1987-1991, he was deputy mayor of the City Council of Pontevedra and delegate of Police and Firemen. He continued in the government of the City Council for four years more (1991-95) as councillor responsible for Trade, Industry and Tourism. He has been on the executive committee of the Chamber of Commerce for fourteen years, first as a member and as first vice-president since June 1998. He was also on the board of directors of the Association of Businessmen of middle and small Company of Pontevedra , where he filled the office of vice-president.
He is the president, founder and sponsor of the Volleyball team 'Club Volleibol Pontevedra', which plays in the Second National Division. He was the founder of the Galician Club of vintage cars, setting an example of his passion for them with several models in his garages. He is also keen on fishing.
