He studied Secondary Education at La Salle School in Santiago and at the Labour University of A Coruña. From 1977 to 1982 he studied Medicine in Santiago de Compostela and specialized in Urology at the Institute of Urology, Nephrology and Andrology – Puigvert Foundation in Barcelona (1987 – 1991).
He completed his specialization at the Centre Hospitalier Regional et Universitaire (Nantes), Clinique Saint-Jean Languedoc (Toulousse), University Hospital (Zaragoza), Washington University School of Medicine (St. Louis), Institute of Urology (London), Western General Hospital (Edinburg), Institut Montsouris (Paris) and Hospital Erasme (Brussels).
He worked as an urologist at the Institute of Urology - Puigvert Foundation, Barcelona (1992-93), Monte Naranco Hospital, Oviedo (1994-97) and Povisa Hospital, Vigo (since 1997), where he has been the head of the Urology Service since 2008.
He did a MA in Management of Clinical Units.

He has published many works in national and international magazines collected in Medline: Cirugía Española, Actas de la Fundación Puigvert, Actas Urológicas Españolas, Archivos Españoles de Urología, Progrès en Urologie, Internacional Urology and Nephrology, Surgery, Urology,  British Journal of  Urology, Journal of Urology, Urologia Internationalis, European Urology, Brasilian Journal of Urology and De Historia Urologiae Europeae.
He has published several works about history of urology in Galicia and Spain.
In 1999 he started in Galicia the techniques on laparoscopic surgery in Urology.
Areas of special interest: laparoscopic surgery of urologic cancer and minimally invasive surgery of kidney and urethra lythiasis.
