He took his degree at the Architecture College of Madrid in 1977, after having studied the two specialities of that time: Town planning and Building. In 1983, he took his doctor's degree at the Polytechnical University in Madrid, with the thesis about urban history Madrid 1898-1931: de corte a metrópolis, which was published by the 'Consejería de Cultura' of the autonomous government in Madrid. As Professor, he teaches Architecture and Urbanism History at the Architecture College in A Coruña, which he directed from 1989 to 1997. His most important task as director focussed on the elaboration of the general instructions of the 'architect degree' and the new syllabus in A Coruña (1992-95). He was one of the founders of A Coruña University, taking part in the board of directors since it was created. From 1990 to 1993, he belonged to the Committee of Academic Order and Teaching and to the 'Consello Social' from 1995 to 1997.As he is an expert in Architecture History and Town Planning History, he published many works about these themes. He also gave lectures in seminars at different Spanish Universities and institutions in United Kingdom, Italy, Mexico and U.S.A., within the programme 'Fullbright' (1989-91).
He is the author of many professional works to restore and build residential and singular buildings in Asturias and Galicia as for example the Secondary School in Burela (Lugo), developing the project that was given a prize in the National Competition for prototypes of Educational Institutions (1979)He also collaborated in the most important architecture magazines. Some of his newest publications are Introducción a la Historia de la Arquitectura (1995), Historia general de la Arquitectura en Asturias (1996), La ciudad lineal del Madrid (1998) and El Banco Pastor de La Coruña (1994).
He won some prizes in different Architecture competitions such as:-National competition for the 'Vaguada' social centre in Madrid (1980).-Competition for the Culture Centre in Avilés (1982).-Competition for the order of 'Begoña' Walk in Gijón (1987).-Competition for the order of the littoral in A Coruña (1989), with a project about the methodological possibilities to reconstruct a littoral urban area.
