He graduated in Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine (Santiago de Compostela University) in 1974 and took his doctor's degree (best qualification 'cum laude') in 1978. He specialised in Paediatrics, Intensive Medicine and Puericulture and did an MA in Bioethics. Nowadays, he is a Professor of Paediatrics and fills the office of vice-dean in the Faculty of Medicine (Santiago de Compostela University). He is the head of the Service of Paediatric Emergencies at the University Hospital (Santiago), president of the Galician Society of Paediatrics and president of the Spanish Society of Paediatric Intensive Care.

 Work & Activities

He wrote over 400 scientific publications (some of them in collaboration with other authors, chapters for books, monographs and national and international professional magazines. For all these works, he was awarded several scholarships and research prizes. He gave more than 400 lectures and participated as rapporteur in many national and international conferences. His research lines are reflected in fourteen projects and sixty-two doctoral and minor thesis based on the most important problems that affect children in Galicia as well as prevention, diagnosis and therapeutics.

He is a member of 21 national and international scientific societies. He is an honourable member of six of them.
He got Castelao Medal in 2012.
