He took a degree in Philosophy and Arts at Oviedo University and a doctor's degree in History getting a scholarship from 'Jerónimo Zurita' Institute to elaborate his doctoral thesis. At the beginning of the 70's, he worked as an assistant lecturer at Oviedo University and Professor of Geography and History at Secondary Schools. He filled the offices of 'subdirector general del Libro, Bibliotecas y Patrimonio Documental' (1984-88) and 'director general de Educación Básica' (1987-90) in the Xunta de Galicia. He was the head of the Geography and History Department at 'A Nosa Señora dos Ollos Grandes' Secondary School in Lugo.
He has written several books such as Loio: de monasterio fructuosiano a encomienda santiaguista (Lugo, 1984), El priorato santiaguista de Vilar de Donas en la Edad Media (1194-1500) (A Coruña, 1986), O legado santiaguista de Vilar de Donas (Santiago, 1989), Luis Pérez Novo (Novo, 1997), A cidade e o conto de Lugo na Idade Media, en Historia de Lugo, Vía Láctea and A obra escultórica de Víctor Corral Castro. Unha aproximación á escultura galega contemporánea, Citania de Publications. He has carried out critical studies in the magazines 'Estudios Mindonienses', 'Lucensia', 'Cátedra' and in the newspaper El Progreso (Lugo). He has given many lectures.
In 1984, he got the prize of Historical Investigation, awarded by the Ministry of Education. He was a member of the board of directors of the magazine 'Estudios Mindonienses', and member of the 'Consejo de Fábrica de la Catedral de Mondoñedo' (commission responsible for all the matters related to Mondoñedo's Cathedral) and historical adviser in restoration works of the Architectural Heritage.
