As a Professor, he taught Anatomy in Salamanca (1947-1950) and Surgery in Santiago de Compostela (1952-89). He directed the Surgery Department at the Clinical Hospital in Santiago (1957-89) and has been an emeritus Professor since 1991. While he was the head of the Surgery Department, he collaborated in the formation of five Professors of Surgery, Urology, Neurosurgery and Vascular Surgery.He also worked in the Anatomische Institut of Vienna as an assistant (1942-43), the Quirurgische Klinik of Heidelberg (1950-1952-1953) and at St Marcks Hospital inLondon (1960-1961-1965).
He wrote several chapters of the works: Anatomía Humana by Professor Orts Llerca, Patología Quirúrgica by Professor Lafuente and Cirugía by Professor José L. Balibrea. He also translated from German the work Anatomía Topográfica Humana by Professor E. Pern Kopf and published about 200 articles on his speciality.
He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine (chair 43).
