He published his first article about cinema when he was fifteen in the old “Cinema 2002”; he became expert on cinematographic technique in this magazine. While he was combining his studies on Information Sciences at the Autonomous University of Barcelona with his job as responsible for activities at San Jordi Hall of Residence and the technical advising of “Cinema 2002”, he got in touch with Catalonian cinematographic collectors in the early 80’s and lay the foundations of a film collection in professional cinematographic media (16 and 35 mm), which today is considered as the biggest cartoons collection in Europe.
He is a university expert on Cinema Script and Direction (Camilo José Cela University). He is a member of the Spanish Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences (speciality: Animation) and member of the board of the Galician Audiovisual Cluster.
He founded IB Cinema to cover all the activities of the cinematographic sector: production, distribution and exhibition. As distributor, Ignacio Benedeti is responsible for the greatest promotion of Galician cinema with the distribution of over two hundred and thousand DVDs of Galician languages and in Galician version. Ignacio Benedeti was also responsible for the programmes “Cinema de Noite” (for the Consellería de Cultura) and “Noite de Cine” (for A Coruña County Council) with thousands of spectators for 35mm Galician cinema, developed with educational campaigns focused on a theme each season.
As a producer, he has five films for cinema (“La casa de mi abuela”, “El regalo de Silvia”, “Linko”, “Mercados de futuro” and “Estigmas”), three films for TV (“Sara”, “Delta” and “Sincopado”) and a great number of shorts like “Minotauromaquia: Pablo en el laberinto”, directed by Juan Pablo Etcheverry or “The werepig: o güerepork”, directed by SAM. His films were nominated for the Goya Awards on three occasions, the European Film Academy twice and he has also been awarded hundreds of national and international prizes.
He is responsible for the recovering of Leni Riefensthal’s cinematographic material, whose DVD edition has been qualified as the best worldwide.
As cinematographic author, he has published “Amando de Ossorio: un galego fantástico” (a volume about this Galician director published by the University of A Coruña) as well as a lot of cinematographic articles published in “Le monde diplomatique”, “ABC”, “La Voz de Galicia” and other media. His articles about cinematographic technique have been published in English by “The Big Reel” (USA), “Small Format” (Germany) and “International Movie Making” (England) and can be consulted in the web page www.ibcinema.com In the middle 90’s he created and programmed the ‘Filmoteca del Fórum Metropolitano’. He has developed thematic cycles for different national institutions and for the CGAC, Caixa Galicia, Barrié Foundation and CGAI in Galicia.
