He studied at the Seminary in Santiago. Then he studied Law and took his degree in 1845.He took part in the Galician Revolt in 1846 and had to run away to Portugal. He also travelled to France and Italy. In 1861 he studied Journalism in Madrid and some years later he lived again in Portugal.
Francisco Añón Paz was one of the great pioneers of the Rexurdimento (a process that took place in the second half of the 19th century to recuperate Galician culture and language). He wrote about one hundred and forty poems in Castilian, Galician and Portuguese language. Until 1920 some of his poems were published.
The Galician Academy dedicated him ?O Día das Letras Galegas? (The Day of the Galcian Letters) in 1966.
