He took a degree in Philosophy and Arts in 1970 and a doctor's degree in History in 1975. From 1971 to 1974, he enjoyed a scholarship from the Ministry of Education and another one from 'Juan March' Foundation during the period 1977-78. From 1970 to 1978, he taught Medieval History as assistant lecturer at Santiago University and at Extremadura University during the period 1981-82. Since April 1982, he has been a Professor of Medieval History at Santiago University. He was invited by the most important Spanish Universities, the Council of Scientific Investigations, such as Oporto University (Portugal) and Université du Maine (Le Mans, France) to give lectures, organise research seminars and give postgraduate courses. In 1995, he got the Research Prize, awarded by the Xunta de Galicia.

 Work & Activities

He wrote the following books: -La región del obispado de Tuy en los siglos XII a XV. Una sociedad en la expansión y en la crisis (1976). -La colonización cisterciense en Galicia (1981). -La introducción del Císter en España y Portugal (1991). -La idea y el sentimiento de la muerte en la historia y en el arte de la Edad Media (1992). -De Galicia en la Edad Media. Sociedad, Espacio y Poder (1993). -El reino de León en la Alta Edad Media. VII (1995). -Antroponimia y sociedad. Sistemas de identificación hispano-cristianos en los siglos IX al XIII (1995). He also published many articles in scientific magazines and minutes of national and international congresses whose main point deals with the social history during the central centuries of the Middle Ages in Galicia. Up to now, he directed twelve doctoral theses and took part as rapporteur in many national and international scientific congresses.
