In 1976, he took his degree in Mathematics at Santiago University and his doctor's degree in 1980. From 1976 to 1981 he worked as assistant lecturer and within the period 1977-1980 he enjoyed a grant from the National Training Plan for Research Workers. In 1981, he worked as temporary teacher. Since 1982 he has been working as Algebra Professor. From 1989 to 1990 he coordinated Mathematics for the pre-university course (COU). From 1990 to 1994 he held the post of dean at the Faculty of Mathematics. In 1994, he became vice-chancellor of students. Since 1995 he has held the post of vice-chancellor of academic order and degrees. He took a certificate of specialized studies on University management.

 Work & Activities

He took part in several subsidized projects as a research worker. Nowadays he coordinates an INTAS-project of the European Union. He published several research works. In 1992, he was invited by Rennes I University. He also worked as adviser for the education reform at San Luis Gonzaga de Ica University (Peru). He gave several lectures about the Spanish and European University system and Evaluation, Quality and University Management. He also elaborated technical instructions in postgraduate courses and advising for doctoral theses.
